Inspiring Fireside Evening in Hamburg

On October 27, 2023 an inspiring fireside evening was held in Hamburg as part of our SFCP project, bringing together representatives and experts from the financial sector, academia and politics. The aim was an open exchange on the topic “๐—ž๐—น๐—ถ๐—บ๐—ฎ๐˜€๐—ฐ๐—ต๐˜‚๐˜๐˜‡ ๐˜‚๐—ป๐—ฑ ๐—ป๐—ฎ๐—ฐ๐—ต๐—ต๐—ฎ๐—น๐˜๐—ถ๐—ด๐—ฒ ๐—™๐—ถ๐—ป๐—ฎ๐—ป๐˜‡๐˜„๐—ถ๐—ฟ๐˜๐˜€๐—ฐ๐—ต๐—ฎ๐—ณ๐˜” to create space for open discussions in a small setting.

ย

The key questions of the evening, namely “Where do we stand? Where should we be? What action is needed?” led to stimulating discussions on various facets of this topic.

ย

The evening was opened by Verena Hebbecker, representative of the BMBF, with a technical impulse from ๐—ฃ๐—ฟ๐—ผ๐—ณ. ๐——๐—ฟ. ๐—๐—ผ๐—ฐ๐—ต๐—ฒ๐—บ ๐— ๐—ฎ๐—ฟ๐—ผ๐˜๐˜‡๐—ธ๐—ฒ continued. Prof. Marotzke, climatologist, oceanographer, university lecturer and director at the Max Planck Institute for Meteorology in Hamburg, shared valuable insights.

ย

We would particularly like to highlight a quote from Prof. Marotzke:
“It is no longer realistic to expect that global warming can be limited to 1.5ยฐC. Society must therefore adapt to significant climate change, and this requires considerable political, technical and financial efforts.”
The discussions clearly showed that the financial industry has leverage to work towards the 1.5ยฐC target and that this is inevitable. This makes the research work of our KlimFi projects all the more important.

ย

We would like to thank all participants for their valuable contributions. We look forward to further exciting events and ongoing dialog with you.
