Enlightening and inspiring exchanges at the Sustainable Finance PhD and PostDoc Workshop

Nearly 50 junior researchers gathered in Hamburg for a PhD and PostDoc workshop co-hosted by the SFCP project (Sustainable Finance and Climate Protection) and the Sustainable Finance Research Platform (Wissenschaftsplattform Sustainable Finance). In addition to a presentation on how to respond to reviewers’ comments and several opportunities for exchange and networking, the junior researchers had the chance to put their burning questions to more experienced researchers in interactive discussions on publication strategies, academic careers, and surviving and enjoying the PhD journey.

Here are some of our key learnings:
Doing a PhD is an exciting and rewarding, but often demanding, journey that requires perseverance.
Growing a network of fellow researchers who can support you on different levels during and after the journey is important. Asking them for help is not only helpful but also recommended.
Identify your personal preferences to determine the best publication strategy and PhD path for you.

Many thanks to the participants and to our panelists Prof. Dr. Andrej Gill, Prof. Dr. Michael KoetterPD Dr.-Ing. Silke Oetsch, Prof. Dr. Klaus Schäfer, Prof. Dr. Frank Schiemann, Prof. Dr. Timo Busch, Dr. Brigitte Bernard-Rau, PhD, LL.M., Dr. Gunnar Gutsche, Assistant Professor Anne Kellers and Dr. Karol Kempa.
We would also like to thank the Bundesministerium für Bildung und Forschung and the Stiftung Mercator GmbH for making this event possible.
